FAQ

  • What style of yoga will be taught?

With roots in Ashtanga Yoga and Baptiste Yoga, Sasha's classes are fiery yet grounding. Her hope in life is to improve the lives of those open and willing to roll out the mat and discover the magic of the practice and what’s within them. Yoga can be utilized as a tool to not only calm the body and mind, but also to alleviate symptoms of illness, in the physical and emotional bodies.

Ashtanga emphasizes the connection between breath and movement, and can be a great way to build strength, flexibility, and mental focus.

Baptiste Yoga is linked together by connective momentum and consists of five classical pillars: Drishti (gaze), Ujjayi (breath), Bandhas (foundation), Tapas (heat) and Vinyasa (flow).

  • What style of meditation will be taught?

Emma’s teaching focuses on breath and body awareness. Her foundation is influenced by Vipassana, but is secular and neutral for everyone. Her approach integrates self-compassion and mindfulness techniques to help you feel empowered and aligned with your true self.

There will be guided sessions geared toward release and relaxation, as well as sessions with more silence to invite in more self awareness.

Most sessions will include journaling to support the integration and understanding of your experience.

Vipassana is a mindfulness practice to observe your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations without judgment. The goal is to see things as they are, rather than how you want them to be.

  • What do I need to bring with me for yoga, meditation, & journaling practice?

Everything you need will be provided for you - yoga mats, meditation cushions, blankets, journals and pens. You're also welcome to bring anything extra that you feel is important to your practices.

  • What experience level should I have to attend?

    All experience levels are welcome!

While this retreat is geared toward deepening your practice, Sasha and Emma have years of experience teaching all levels. Beginners will be guided with ease, and seasoned practitioners will have the opportunity to dive in.

  • This is a women's only retreat- will there be men at the resort?

Yes. This retreat is designed specifically for women, and only women will be in our classes. However, there will be other retreats occuring at the same time, and the resort is open to all genders.

  • What will the weather be like? How should I dress appropriately?

Chacala lies south of the Tropic of Cancer, thus it is located in the true tropics, and its climate is tropical – hot and humid. Average temperatures for February are highs of 81°F and lows of 66°F.

Yoga clothing is recommended for yoga practice. Outside of yoga practice, we recommend wearing loose fitting, flowing, and comfortable clothing that you can layer, relax in, and also move about freely while walking or traveling during excursions.

Bring appropriate footwear for all types of terrain, from airport travel to hikes, and beach walking to lounging around the resort- eg. one pair of tennis shoes, and one pair of sandals.
